"I have long been a fan of the Champagne J. Lassalle wines, and their current release of the “Cuvée Angeline” was showing beautifully in Beaune in November. The cépages of the 2007 is a blend of sixty percent pinot noir and forty percent chardonnay, with the wine going through full malolactic fermentation (as do all the Lassalle wines) and having aged on the lees for five years. The 2007 Cuvée Angeline offers up a stunning and youthful nose of delicious apples, a touch of tangerine, bread dough, chalky minerality and a topnote of citrus peel. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, and like all of the Lassalle bottlings, supremely elegant, with a rock solid core of fruit, crisp and seamless acids, very refined mousse and outstanding length and grip on the complex and very classy finish. The epitome of refined bubbly. 2013-2030+."

"Firm and fresh, with a chalky base note, precise texture and focused flavors of fresh quince, poached pear, grated ginger and pastry dough. Honey and fleur de sel notes play off each other on the finish. Drink now through 2022. -AN"

"Light yellow-gold. Smoky citrus and orchard fruits on the intensely perfumed nose. The palate offers juicy orange and poached pear flavors with dusty mineral and bitter quince flourishes. Impressively focused and long on the finish, leaving behind notes of buttered toast and smoky lees."

"The 2007 Brut Millesime Premier Cru Cuvee Angeline is all about detail and nuance. Green apples, pears, spices and white flowers all play off each other in a soft, resonant Champagne loaded with class and personality. The soft, pliant style appears best suited to near-term drinking."

"The 60-40 Pinot-Chardonnay blend that is J. Lassalle's 2007 Brut Cuvée Angeline is scented with lightly toasted almond and hazelnut, along with caramel apple and candied grapefruit rind. The aforementioned, rather confectionary elements are delightfully integrated into a juicy matrix of fresh apple and grapefruit on a silken, buoyant palate, leading to a sustained, at once soothing and refreshing finish. While it should prove delightful for at least the next couple of years, I imagine that this particular 'Angeline's' charm will be at its peak early."
