"This has a good smoldering feel, with warm, steeped currant, plum and blackberry fruit melding nicely with bay leaf and charcoal notes. There's solid flesh through the finish, with some chalky grip that needs brief cellaring to round into form. Best from 2014 through 2018. 23,500 cases made. -JM" (2013)

Product Description:

Winery:
"Pierre de Marsan built the castel in the seventeenth century, exactly in 1630, and gave it its name. From this time, only the foundations subsiste ; the "chartreuse" we can see now is from the nineteenth century."

"In 1962, Paul and Marie-Josee Gonfrier came from Algeria to Lestiac. They bought the castel; at this time the property was about 30 hectares in part of vine and in the other part of fruits trees. It's during the middle of the 80's that the Chateau de Marsan saw big changes : Eric and Philippe (two of the three suns) bring with them a new vision of the way of working. They made the bet to buy at least 15 hectares per year during 10 years (today the vineyard counts 350 ha...), they decided to invest in new equipments in the cellars with new technologies of vinification."

"To fully exploit the quality and diversity of this harvest, it was necessary to build a technologically advanced wine store : 25000 hl of wine vats, mostly stainless steel, allowing complete control of the vinifications, a carefully studied production line to receive the harvest with the mininum of damage to the grape, the possibility of being able to carry out certain treatments to the wine to guarantee a product free from any deposits or other drawbacks, regular controls at all stages of the vinifications and a maximum level of hygiene at all times ; especially on our own bottling-up line, very modern. The ageing of the bottled wine is done in huge air conditioned darkrooms allowing us to offer the customer several vintages which will have aged to their optimum." - Winery
