"At Bodegas Cambrico the estate grown 60-year-old Rufete vines are biodynamically farmed. The 2003 Rufete is 100% varietal and is aged for 14 months in French oak before bottling without filtration. Dark ruby in color, it has an alluring perfume of toast, mineral, wild raspberries, cherry, and rose petals that leaps from the glass. This leads to a ripe, intense, sweetly fruited wine that hides ample silky tannin within its stylish personality. It should continue to develop over the next 3-4 years and will drink well through 2020."
"The obscure Rufete grape selling for nearly $100 a bottle?! It is a cousin to the Pinot Noir brought to the region by Burgundian settlers over 400 years ago. Over time, the Tempranillo vines of the area have grown to resemble the Rufete so much that only locals are permitted to pick at harvest time because they can more easily discriminate the subtle differences."
