"Mas d’En Compte’s red offering, the 2007 Tinto, is composed of 50% Garnacha, 45% Carinena, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon aged for 14 months in new French oak. The quality of the 2007 vintage is a village by village comparison and is considered better for Carinena. The wine is a glass-coating purple/black color with aromas of tar, licorice, mineral, and a confiture of black fruits. On the palate it is sweetly fruited (likely the contribution of the 80- to 100-year-old Garnacha vines), jammy, and concentrated with enough underlying structure to evolve for 6-8 years. This powerful effort should be at its best from 2015 to 2027."

"Vivid ruby. A complex bouquet offers raspberry, cherry compote, potpourri and spicecake. Deeper, darker fruits on the palate, along with suggestions of allspice and vanilla. Shuts down with air and shows fine-grained tannins and good mineral spine, suggesting the wine needs a little more patience. The finish is taut and focused, with a lingering touch of bitter licorice and very good persistence."

Product Description:

"One of the oldest grape-growing families in the Priorat, the Sangenis family had historically sold the entirety of their production to the local coop until 1995 when they formed a new company, Mas d’en Compte, to bottle wine under their own name. Now, young Joan Sangenis manages the estate and makes the wines and has converted the entire estate away from chemical pesticides and herbicides. In a region where almost everyone has a few vines over 50 years old, the Sangenis family’s entire vineyard is practically this old, with several small parcels of 100+ year old vines of Grenache and Carignan.
