"From the estate created by Jean-Michel Cazes in 2002, this syrah-based blend (70 percent) is juicy and mouthwatering, seasoned with an array of salt and herbs that brings porchetta to mind. There's just enough tannin to hold the wine firm without curbing its exuberance, and it lasts, ready for leg of lamb." (06/11)
Product Description:
WINE:
"Powerful and fleshy, wines from L'Ostal Cazes reflect the terroir of their appellation uncommonly well. They have a deep colour, a silky texture and a spicy and explosive nose, with scents of garrigue scrubland, ripe black fruit and morello cherry. In the mouth, great richness, fatty, ripe fruit and creaminess that envelops elegant and distinguished tannins."
"A stringent selection allows for only 30% of the estate's production for L'Ostal Cazes to refine into wine. Blend of 65% Syrah, 13% Carignan, 12% Grenache, 10% Mourvedre. Aging is 15 months in French oak barrels. L'Ostal Cazes can be enjoyed young thanks to the generosity of its fruit, but the richness and elegance of its tannins will allow it to felicitously age." -Winery
WINERY:
"For years, Jean-Michel Cazes, owner of the Chateau Lynch-Bages in Pauillac, has meandered through the roads of Languedoc. Attracted to the 'patchwork quilt' of legendary terroirs which underpins the region, his gaze fell upon upon La Liviniere, a village at the foot of the Montagne Noire, birthplace of the greatest vineyards in Minervois. In 2002, Jean-Michel Cazes acquires two adjacent properties, creating an estate of 150 hectares, consisting of 50 hectares of vines and 25 hectares of olive trees. Together with his son Jean-Charles, they chose a name rich with meaning and history: L'Ostal Cazes, for, in old 'Langue d'oc' (Occitan), 'L'Ostal' referred to both the house and the family group living there as one idea." -Winery
