About

Rating:

91

"Vivid red. Pungent dark fruits, cherry compote and musky underbrush on the nose, with sexy rose and fruitcake qualities gaining strength with air. Broad and fleshy on entry, then turns tighter in the mid-palate and offers densely packed blackberry and cherry flavors. Fine-grained tannins add grip and focus to the long, smoky finish. This is complex enough to drink now but has the depth to repay patience." (06/10)

Product Description:

WINE:
"2007 Numbers Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir- is like going to the edge of the frontier with a great novel in hand. Rich earth and dark exotic fruit flows from glass to mouth. A great weight is felt in the midpalate and lingers to the finish. We source the fruit from two different clones and soil types off the Sonoma Coast appellation. The first, clone 115, comes from adobe soil which is heavy clay and almost black, found at sea level and contributes to the concentration of the wine. The second, clone 667, comes from light sandy soil mixed with a bit of small stone, lending complexity to the wine. Aged 11 months in new and seasoned tight grained, medium toast French oak barrels. Bottled unfined, unfiltered." -Winery

VINEYARD:
"Numbers, Sonoma Coast, Pinot Noir is a two vineyard cuvee comprised of only numbered clones #667, #115 and #114. Sonoma coast appellation is noted for its consistent morning fog and pleasant temperatures. One vineyard resides just off the Pacific Coast and has sandy gold ridge soil. The other vineyard sits a bit more inland and has heavy adobe clay soil. Both are hillside properties with wonderful sun exposure encompassing five different sub sections. The clones for this exclusive bottling were selected for their intense and very rich flavor, color and weight profile. This Pinot Noir is packed with fruit producing full flavors of black plums, massive red cherries, passionate persimmons and a hint of clove and fresh ground nutmeg. The vineyard sits high on the ridge-top where the vines are exposed to the winds that bring the Pacific maritime air and fog. The terroir is defined by a thin loamy-clay with a volcanic subsoil." -Winery

WINERY:
"Adrian Fog was born from the idea that Pinot Noir should have a sense of place and that the vineyard is the birthplace of great wine. All of our vineyards are selected for their individuality. By hand selecting cool climate fruit from small vineyards, Adrian Fog is able to maintain the unique signature and personality of the vineyard. Each vineyard is selected by considering the effect of coastal fog patterns, clonal differences, age and vine orientation to the sun. Picking, fermentation and barrel ageing are done by keeping all clones and blocks separate. By this madness, we are able to learn and appreciate each wine's nuances and style intimately. Our bottlings are determined by the wine's individuality, our largest bottling is 330 cases and the smallest is 23 cases. Picking, racking, and bottling are scheduled as close to the night of the full moon as possible. We have found that she (Adrian Fog) likes and enjoys the effects of the lunar cycle. We encourage you to drink Adrian Fog on the night of a full moon to enjoy her full seductive essence." -Winery
