John Gilman - View from the Cellar
"Like the 1999 vintage, 2009 will be a year to buy Chassagne rouge bottlings in quantity, as the elegance of this vintage has really worked its magic in these vineyards. The nose on the Chassagne old vine rouge from Alexandre Moreau is excellent, as it offers up a really lovely meĢlange of black cherries, dark berries, espresso, woodsmoke and a lovely base of soil. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, pure and complex on the attack, with good mid-palate depth, lovely focus and just a touch of tannin perking up the long finish. I would give this wine two or three years in the cellar to soften and then drink it with great pleasure over the ensuing fifteen to twenty years. Really classy wine. 2013- 2030+."
