Rating:

92

"Generous, elegant and distinctive for the spice box overtones that drape smoothly over the open-textured blackberry and tar flavors, providing a deft dance of fruity and savory that keeps its balance through the long finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Best from 2009 through 2017. 802 cases made. -HS" -92 points Wine Spectator

"Very ripe flavors of berries and figs dominate this Cab-centric Bordeaux blend, along with intriguing side notes suggesting melon and cassis, smoke and mocha. It’s a big, sexy wine, its fruit flavors backed with thick, ripe, but chalky tannins. If there is a downside, it is that it comes off as a bit monolithic." -90 points Wine Enthusiast

WINE:
"Aromas of cinnamon, mushrooms and dark chocolate integrate with spicy oak nuances. The flavors of blackberry, cherry, cassis and pepper marry on the palate. The finish showcases the bright acid and intense, dusty tannins of what will come to be known as one of the best vintages of the decade." -Winery

VINIFICATION:
"Hand-picked and hand-sorted. Punched down by hand to extract generous color and flavor while producing soft, supple tannins. Racked every 3-4 months to soften and clarify the wine. Aged 22 months in 65% new and 35% neutral French oak barrels. Blended with Cabernet Sauvignon for structure, Merlot for elegance, finesse and soft supple tannins Cabernet Franc to give the wine its bright, fruit-forward character, and Petit Verdot for its spicy aromatics. Unfined, unfiltered." -Winery

VINTAGE:
"2005 was a textbook vintage and the perfect year to debut our Neuffer Estate Vineyard fruit. Our vision of producing world class fruit has finally come to fruition. A summer of moderate heat and a long, dry autumn allowed the grapes to hang well in to October. Harvest and fermentation posed the least stress to the fruit in years and the quality shows. The resulting wine contains the richness of the 2004 vintage but with increased structure and higher quality tannins." -Winery

This also scored 89 points by Jay Miller of the Wine Advocate.
