"The 2004 Calvario is sourced from a single vineyard planted in 1945 and is composed of 90% Tempranillo, 8% Grenache, and 2% Graciano. The wine was aged for 14 months in 100% new French oak and bottled unfiltered. Opaque purple-colored, it offers up an expressive nose of toast, vanilla, spice box, floral elements, blueberry, and blackberry liqueur which leaps from the glass. This is followed by a mouth-filling wine with oodles of flavor, great definition, and plenty of ripe tannin leading to a finish lasting nearly a minute. Still an infant developmentally, the wine begs for another 6-8 years in bottle. It should last for at least 25 years. Kudos to Finca Allende for a magnificent set of 2004 Riojas!" -95 points- Jay Miller- Wine Advocate
"The bouquet explodes with tobacco, leather, dry oak and waves of berry fruit. In the mouth, the wine sits comfortably on the tongue, with firm tannins offering structure to the bedazzling boysenberry, black cherry and cassis flavors. Long and intoxicating on the finish. It’s 90% Tempranillo and 10% Garnacha and Graciano. 650 cases made." - 95 Points - Wine Enthusiast
"Saturated purple. Room-filling bouquet of kirsch, dark berries, incense, floral oils and vanillin oak spices. Silky in texture, with admirably deep, focused red and dark fruit flavors complicated by sexy mocha and floral pastille qualities. Impressively elegant and fresh, finishing with outstanding persistence and a lingering cherry flavor. This boasts remarkable finesse for a wine with such palate impact." -93 Points - Josh Raynolds - International Wine Cellar
"Elegance with intensity. Delivers smoky espresso flavors from oak, with mineral and anise accents and a core of plum and black cherry. The tannins are firm and fine. Drink now through 2015. 125 cases imported." -91 Points - Wine Spectator
