About

Ratings:

89-91

"Deep ruby-red, darker than the '99. Perfumed aromas of blackberry, violet pastille, lead pencil, sweet butter and sandalwood. Lush, full and oaky in the mouth; densely packed and youthfully unevolved. Big, sweet finish features nicely ripe tannins and late torrefaction notes of mocha and espresso. The '99 is unlikely to equal this wine." (06/00)

"Dark color, with a ripe blackberry character and hints of minerals. Medium- to full-bodied, with lovely, integrated tannins and velvety, round mouthfeel. Lovely now. - '88/'98 Bordeaux blind retrospective (2008). Drink now. 8,330 cases made. -JS" (2009)

Product Description:

Wine/Winemaking:
"In November following harvesting, the wines re delivered to French oak barrels to begin the slow ageing process. The proportion of 50% to 60% new barrels is adhered to every year to bring a harmonious balance to the Rauzan-Segla wines which are blended before ageing. Each barrel then undergoes racking every 3 months to gradually remove the lees over time. Some months before bottling, fining with fresh egg white is included in the careful racking work, so allowing the natural removal of the remaining unwwanted particles in suspension. Nothing happens by accident; the magic of making a great wine is the result of experience as well as adherence to tradition."

"The wines of Chateau Rauzan-Segla express, first and foremost, the internationally recognised characteristics of the Margaux terroir: an elegant, fragrant bouquet, lots of taste on the palate, a well-balanced structure and very great elegance. But beyond these recognisable features, there is the individual signature of the Chateau. A deep robe with a sparkle of the future, a texture that is velvet smooth, an elegant palate on which the characteristics of the grapes burst forth, together with touches of violet in some vintages..."

"Drinking this Classified Growth is indeed a special event." - Winery

This wine was also scored 89 Points by the Wine Advocate.
