Sodole is a 100% Sangiovese Super Tuscan, crafted by none other than Franco Bernabei. Like no other winemaker, Bernabei knows Sangiovese. He has consulted for the famed Chianti estate Felsina and is one of the names behind the 100% Sangiovese Super Tuscan Flaccianello, named #8 Wine of the Year by Wine Spectator two years in a row. He brings this classic Tuscan variety to new heights, garnering international recognition.
The 2010 Sodole is beginning to show well, with the emergence of cocoa-dusted black fruits on the nose, round and still "chewy" tannins on the palate, and a hint of minerality, from the chalky soils of the San Gimignano vineyard from which this wine is sourced.
This powerhouse red has a darker character than the 2009. The 2010 offers black fruits rather than red, cocoa instead of marzipan. Both will offer even more in another year or so. Hold onto a few bottles, and your patience will be rewarded. Go ahead, start your vertical.
"Lots of blackcurrant, stone and dark chocolate character here, yet this remains tight and subtle. Full body, firm and chewy tannins and a long, flavorful finish. Powerful red needing another two or three years of bottle age but already beautiful to taste." - 93 Points James Suckling
Remember, regardless of if you buy today by the bottle ($39.99) or by the case ($29.99), the shipping is free on every order!
