It goes without saying.  Pinot Noir is year after year one of the most requested wines during November and December.  It is a terrific food wine to pair with a variety of foods, the varietal in particular has soared in popularity over the last several years, plus ... when it comes to giving a wine gift ... it's a wine that has universal appeal.

The fact that you can get Pinot this good, for $24.99 per bottle, is almost hard to believe after tasting it. The wine is from Willowbrook and a few months back, we bought and sold out of a prior wine from this estate that we loved as well. THAT wine was featured in the Wall St Journal shortly after it arrived. Shortly after ... the wine sold out.

After the feature in the Wall Street Journal, Willowbrook is on fire!

For those of you who may have missed it, this is a winery that our own customers are still talking about…nearly five months after we first introduced it!  Critics marveled at the prior release from Willowbrook we featured, enshrining it with the title “one of the top 5 U.S. Pinots under $40”!  And each of us, especially our Buyers, have been on the hunt ever since for another offering that would match the impact of the original one…and finally, we’ve found it, a stunning price break that reduces the price by $200 when you buy by the case!

Artisanal Pinot.  This is the real deal

When Greg La Follette left Flowers Winery to start his own wine label, he built a state of the art winery that turned out to be the heart and soul for many of the Russian River Valley’s rising Pinot Noir stars (including Larry Londer, James Macphail and Joseph Otis). Otis and his partner bought the facility in 2004 because it was specifically designed with the small artisanal, uber-premium producer in mind. Drawing on small lots and passion-driven winemaking techniques, the 2013 Willowbrook Cellars Kastania Pinot Noir is the product of slow, labor intensive methods. Think Basket Press, gravity-flow, hand-sorted grape clusters, manual punch-down of the fruit… get the idea? We’re talking artisanal in every sense of the word, and it shows — only 300 cases of this wine were made for the entire vintage! The wine’s nuances make a wine that is at once concentrated and sublime, and should sell for 2-3 times the price just like the company it keeps!

2013 = Epic Vintage for Pinot Noir buyers

Unprecedented banter over which vintage was the MORE classic highlights one irrefutable fact: 2013 was an amazing Pinot Noir vintage on the Sonoma Coast!  James Laube of the Wine Spectator exclaimed that Sonoma’s 2013 Pinots are hitting their stride. They are structured and graceful…many of which scored up into the outstanding range (90-94) in all of California’s major Pinot Noir producing regions…”  Even more exhilarating was Robert Parker’s mind-blowing review of the vintage, “2013 may turn out to be the finest vintage I have experienced in tasting North Coast varietals over the last 37 years. It's a game-changer in terms of the consistency of quality, the depth of quality, and the across-the-board excellence for so many wines…”  Wow.

Location, Location, Location

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again....It gets better- check out this Single Vineyard:

Hailing from what many consider to be THE most extraordinary sub zone for Pinot Noir in all of California (think Kosta Browne, Kistler Vineyards, Marcassin, Joseph Phelps and Hirsch Vineyards, all of whom make wine from this viticultural area), the Willowbrook Kastania Vineyard is nestled in an almost perfect field of Pinot Noir between the Petaluma Gap and Carneros.

Kastania Vineyard was selected by Joe Otos and Willowbrook for its prized location…and loam soil…and warmer than average temperatures…and established provenance since the vines were planted in the mid-1990’s that made this an essential gem in the crown of Willowbrook Cellars’ Pinot Noir program.

This south-facing vineyard site, planted almost entirely to Pinot Noir for its perfect conditions, produces a classically made, polished, suave Pinot Noir whose gorgeous fruit flavors make it a must-have for every Pinot Noir collector!

The results are breathtaking — Not only did the 2013 Willowbrook Cellars nail and impressive 91 point review from Pinot File for its complex yet suave flavors, but shares much of the same fruit, terroir and winemaking facilities as the country’s greatest Pinot Noirs, delivered at a fraction of the price.

All in all, this is a stunning offer.  Both for drinking now... and for something to jump on now for the Holidays, especially for red wine lovers ... all for $24.99 per bottle when you buy by the case!!
