The secret is out thanks to the Wine Spectator.

"Domaine Giraud, the Quiet Elite" - Wine Spectator Article June 2014

We have been big fans of this estate for years, and as the wines continued to earn outstanding press, we noticed more and more wine consumers taking notice with each passing vintage.  However, despite the increasing popularity, the estate continued to maintain a somewhat "sleeper" status ... until June of 2014.

That's when the Wine Spectator published the article titled "Domaine Giraud, the Quiet Elite".  The first line of the story - "Marie Giraud, along with her brother François, has steadily put this family domaine among the elite of Châteauneuf-du-Pape."

So much for the sleeper status.

For those who have been buying wines from this estate for years, this only means one thing.  Grab the wines while you have a chance.  For those of you who are new to the estate, just wait until you try these wines.  Today's opportunity is not only an incredible vintage, it gives you an big advantage in price as well with out tremendous case discount!

You only get one shot at a First Impression

First Impressions mean everything, a conviction held to the letter of the law at Domain Giraud, and considering the estate’s 2012 Chateauneuf-du-Pape’s ‘Premices’, they absolutely nailed it.  While the ‘Premices’ is Domaine Giraud's earliest released cuvee, it still boasts vines that are 50 years old and seamlessly expresses the Domaine’s impeccable fruit quality.  Why?  Because their fruit shines so brightly: pure and unadulterated, approachable in its youth even though it is held by the winery to the same exacting standards as their 100 year old vines that have been praised by critics around the world!

Pierre Giraud is the son of a long line of winegrowers going back more than six centuries (think 15th Century and Joan of Arc!).  Winegrowing is in this family’s DNA.  Fast forward to today, and the estate of Domaine Giraud stretches over 30 hectares, including property in Terres Blanche, La Crau (think Vieux Telegraphe!) and around Pignan in the Rayas area.  (Click the map to the right to see what we're talking about)

To put this in perspective, Vieux Telegraphe goes for about $60 while Rayas will set you back $300-400/bottle!! The Domaine’s near-religious passion and attention to detail shows loud and clear in today’s blockbuster Chateauneuf du Pape, a wine that in the past has been called "Gorgeous" and "a Joy to Drink". Serious collectors looking for that proverbial “Cellar Defender” take particular note here, especially fans of the Rhone Valley and Grenache:  act now on the 2012 ‘Premices’, an approachable, top flight CdP that will make you the envy of all your wine-loving friends.

Yup, you might have guessed. Philippe Cambie is involved here

Named by Robert Parker as the Oenologist of the Year in 2010.

One of the other big keys to success for Domaine Giraud centers around the winemaking. This wine is made with the assistance of one of the Rhone's most exceptional wine consultants, Philippe Cambie (who works for Vieux Donjon,St. Prefert, Clos St. Jean and dozens of others). He was named by Robert Parker as the Oenologist of the year in 2010. He is a man who knows everything there is to know about world class Grenache and it shows in each and every wine that he puts his hand into.

The 2012 Domaine Giraud Premices exhibits the quintessential smoothness for which Philippe Cambie and world class Grenache is famous, with “notes of jam of figs, soft spices, light tobacco, and the color of India Ink”.

Even better, the timing of today’s offer is so very perfect.  Holidays are around the corner.  In particular…Thanksgiving, and this stunning red is a must-have for those of you looking for a wine with ‘all the fixins'…to go with all the fixins ;)
