"In short, you can’t go wrong at this estate and these are brilliant wines that check in near the top of the Santa Barbara hierarchy. Hat's off to winemaker Matt Dees and the rest of the team." - Jeb Dunnuck

If you haven't tried the wines from Jonata yet ... you are in for an incredible treat.

This is one of the most exciting producers in all of California and collectors around the world have been taking notice over the last several years. The 2013 Fenix is one of the most exciting wines from the recent release.

Dedicated to expressing a range of red - and a handful of white - wines from its estate in the central coast of California’s Ballard Canyon (Santa Ynez Appellation), Jonata is one of a new breed of producers throughout the world who are thriving with a non-traditional amalgam of varieties and blends. With a commitment in particular to Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Syrah, and informed by cutting edge viticulture, winemaking and a polyface approach to their estate, the Jonata wines are on the vanguard of an emerging quality movement in California winegrowing.

The name Jonata pays homage to the 1845 Spanish land grant, Rancho San Carlos de Jonata. At the time, the land grant covered a large part of the Santa Ynez Valley. Today’s Jonata is at the heart of the former land grant. The Jonata name was borrowed by the first pioneers from the local Chumash Indian and means "tall oak."

"I love the upfront, sexy and polished 2013 Fenix, which is the estate’s Merlot-dominated blend. Incorporating 30% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot, this full-bodied beauty gives up loads of plum, chocolate, smoked herbs and underbrush in a rich, mouth-filling, hard to resist style. Drink it over the coming 10-15 years."

Dunnuck previously remarked, "Only made in the top vintages, the 2013 Fenix is a jaw-dropping good barrel sample that's a blend of mostly Merlot, with smaller amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Maybe the best wine from the estate in 2014, it knocks it out of the park with its incredible nose of cassis, plum, graphite and violets. Big, full-bodied, decadent and concentrated, with awesome purity and a blockbuster finish, it's a killer wine that will drink well for upward of two decades."
