Cabernet Sauvignon from California is awesome. We love it. You love it. Everybody loves it.

But you have a problem.

All you ever drink these days is California Cab. It's all Napa-or-Bust. And we're concerned. There is a huge world of varietal Cabernet Sauvignons out there and you're only drinking the stuff that's within a spit-bucket's disance from St. Helena. It's not right! So take a look at these Cabs, try one (or a few), and tell us how it went. We think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

2010 Cavalierino "Chiccheio"

Organic, sustainable, and rated 95 pts by Luca Maroni. This wine is basically the Prom King. It has it all. More importantly, though, this wine is the perfect example of why you should be looking outside of the usual regions for your Cabernet. If you’ve ever wanted a good example of what a “polished” wine tastes like, this is your guy. The quality of the fruit and the tannins is absolutely immaculate.

2012 Juana De Sol Cabernet Sauvignon Mendoza

Malbec ain’t the only Bordeaux variety that can kick it in Argentina. The same terrior that contributes to awesome Malbec can also produce some fantastic Cab. The Juana Del Sol showcases gigantic red fruit up front, but surprising complexity as smoked black pepper suddenly enters the scene toward the finish.

2013 Veramonte Cabernet Sauvignon

To be totally fair, Cabernet is actually the most widely planted red variety in Maipo, Chile, where this wine comes from, but when was the last time you had a Chilean Cab? Can’t remember? Well there ya go. This is a chunky, chocolaty, dark Cab with a hint of herbaceiousness that elevates it beyond its pricepoint. Really impressive juice right here.
