This is an incredible deal ... on a top flight Brunello.

Brunello buyers will want to jump all over this incredible deal from the blockbuster 2007 vintage.  Just how good a vintage was this?  The Wine Advocate ranked the 2007 vintage with a 97 Point score for the vintage overall.  That's higher than 1997 and 2001!!  That probably had something to do with the incredible demand we had for the 2007's when they were available a while back.

The only issue then was keeping them in stock.  Today, it's hard to find great deals from this vintage .... until now.  The 2007 Lazzeretti Brunello is a stunning example of just how incredible the wines from this year can be.

Yes ... you can drink this now.

This is part of the fun of being able to offer a Brunello that has a little bit of age on it.  With the 2010's on the market now, we have many buyers looking back to try and pick up bottles from a prior vintage that was also quite strong.  2007 is the first in line.

The 93 Point Wine Spectator review notes that this wine is just now starting to come into its drinking window and on top of that, will hold for another 10+ years at least!

Drink it now ... or drink it later.  Either way - this is a terrific buy!

You may be familiar with Brunello di Montalcino by name, but how did it come to be?

The history of Brunello di Montalcino begins in 1888, when a veteran soldier named Ferruccio Biondi-Santi crafted a wine made from 100% Sangiovese aged for over a decade in large wood barrels. It would be almost 70 more years before other producers would join in as the cost of production was quite high, but as more producers came on board, Brunello di Montalcino was granted DOC status in 1968. At that point, the number quickly rose to 53 producers in 1980, at which time it was granted Italy's highest designation, DOCG. Today there are close to 250 producers in Montalcino, and quality has been quickly on the rise over the last decade. Divided in to 8 subzones, all of unique terroir, the styles of Brunello di Montalcino can vary from Pinot Noir-esque beauty, to powerful, almost Cabernet-like density and richness.

What makes the wines from Lazzeretti so special?

Shortly after Brunello achieved it's DOCG status, the Lazzeretti family planted their first vines, and became a tremendous upstart to this now hallowed area. Started by Marco Lazzeretti's grandfather, both Marco and his sister Lucia have taken the next steps in turning this winery in to a force in Montalcino. Using traditional methods, and farming great southeast facing, hillside vineyards, they can capture the beauty and purity of Sangiovese, making a great Brunello in almost any year. They have quietly been on Wine Spectator's radar for years, and we are making sure that everyone knows this brand going forward! This is clearly a winery to watch out for!
