Robert Young Estate Chardonnay is a classic.  Boasting the estate’s top 5% of precious vineyard fruit, Robert Young is quintessential California Chardonnay.

Full bodied, luxurious, layered, and brilliantly alive and dynamic all at once, today’s offering is everything you want a white wine to be, yet so much more!

Over a decade of 90+ scores with the Wine Spectator

It all started with the 1999 Vintage.  The Wine Spectator issued a 92 Point score with a rave review.  It seems that from the moment that first score hit, this wine quickly became a household name.  Robert Young's Alexander Valley Chardonnay would go on to earn another (10) 90+ Point scores with the Wine Spectator between 1999 and 2012 making it a red hot item virtually vintage after vintage.

As expected, the 2011 vintage we are offering today earned yet another 90 point score and the Wine Spectator remarked, "Nicely oaky, creamy and seductive, with ripe pear, smoky oak and toasty vanilla scents that gain depth, length and nuance, lingering on the finish. Drink now through 2018"

It's all about consistency .... and in this case ... it's easy to see how it pays off.

"A lot of hard work ... attention to every little detail."
-Jim Young, CEO, Robert Young Vineyards

More than 50 years and five generations ago, the Robert Young Vineyard has been at the vanguard of vineyard management, clonal development, and a leading edge portfolio of wines all their own.  Inspired by the vineyard’s wildly diverse soil types and uber-high quality fruit, Robert Young Estate is built around a small yet powerful family of growers and winemaking experts working a vineyard in the heart of the Alexander Valley at the base of the Mayacamas Mountains.  Celebrating more than a decade of 90+ point scores, Robert Young is at the top of its winemaking game, and today's Chardonnay is the perfect wine for you to enjoy right here, right now.

Lets talk about the soil:

You will note in the interview above, there are ultra diverse soil types here.

"Nine different soil types with differing depths are found in the Robert Young Estate. One of the main soil types — alluvial – is extremely rare in Sonoma County. This soil, accumulated from erosion flowing down off the hills onto the flatland, forms the basis for some of the winemaker’s favorite blocks on the ranch." - Winery

Want to know why this wine has achieved such incredible success in the past?  One of the reasons starts right here.

Lets talk about the history

"Robert Young was a pioneer in the planting of premium varietal grapes in California. In 1963, he was the first to plant cabernet sauvignon in Alexander Valley. He was one of the first growers to be honored by having his vineyard recognized on a wine label. Later, his son, Jim Young, became one of the first grape growers in California to introduce canopy management practices. Today, the children or scions of Robert Young — JoAnn, Susan, Jim and Fred — continue the family tradition of innovation and integrity. They are committed to preserving the family land and upholding their father’s dedication to premium winegrowing." - Winery

Bottom line, this is a winery that Chardonnay lovers should know about.

We're looking for a Chardonnay that's not only enjoyable with food - it's also enjoyable by itself.
- Kevin Warren,
Winemaker, Robert Young Winery

That is such a key point here and a big reason why we know so many of you will flat out flip over this.

Winemaker Kevin Warren spoke to us at length about the magic behind the 2011 Robert Young Estate Chardonnay, giving his sustainably farmed vineyard all the credit, a tract of land whose riches stem from the legacy of a family that has farmed the same terroir for half a century.  In 1975, Chateau St. Jean released one of the first vineyard-designate wines in America: the 1975 Robert Young Vineyard Chardonnay!  Add to this the global recognition the winery attained with trade professionals in 1987 for the development of one of the country’s very best chardonnay clones: the Robert Young Clone #17, and you’ll begin to “get” what we’re talking about.

With a very small production in 2011, we were thrilled to be able to get the small number of cases we did.  They are available today at $29.99 per bottle plus free shipping when you buy by the case and use the code RYC.  Take advantage while you can!  This will not last long!
