If there are just three things you should know about today's Cabernet offer, it would be:

1. Hot real estate. Lake County is emerging from Napa's shadow, but not the Mayacamas Mountain's. The land here has everyone from Andy Beckstoffer to Robert Parker talking.  This wine region and today's secret Cabernet were featured in Food & Wine's No-Napa Guide to California Cabernet.

2. Free shipping on case orders! Use the code SRC when checking out and shipping on all orders of 12 or more bottles here will be free!!

3. Incredible $19.99 price. This is ridiculously good Cab for the money. This wine delivers impressively quality, especially considering a) it's California and b) it's half the price of what you might expect from Napa.

Bonus - the vintage. Epic.

Today we unveil our Cabernet Deal #1. It's from a California wine region you might not know...at least not yet. We thought we got in under the radar, until we found out that folks like Stephane Derenoncourt and Lettie Teague beat us to the punch. Lake County is emerging from the shadow of its southerly neighbor Napa. The wines - especially the Cabernet Sauvignons - from this North Coast region offer exceptional quality without the Napa price tag.

Hot Real Estate. Lake County has Everyone Talking
From Robert Parker to Lettie Teague in the Wall St Journal ...

Lake County is hot. Literally, its warmer than Napa during the summer. And everyone is either talking about or buying into Lake County. Volcanic soils, a beautiful lake, and the Mayacamas Mountains - what's not hot about that

Several years back, Robert Parker did an article on Top Value California Wine.  He noted "Another important component is to search out the best-made wines from viticultural areas that are not as much in demand and are considered somewhat backwater areas. Lodi, Paso Robles, Lake County in the north, and from the Central Coast, Livermore Valley, Santa Clara Valley, and Arroyo Seco ...

Lettie Teague from the Wall Street Journal published an article in 2012 called Lake County, Napa's Neighbor, Gains Respect.  To read the full article click here.
In the story, Teague talks about the interest in the area of late and gives some incredible examples as to why so many are taking a long look at this exciting area.
The point here is that often times, the best value in California can come from other areas.  Stephane Derenoncourt makes Lake County Cabernet Sauvignon there. Famed vineyard owner Andy Beckstoffer recently purchased Lake County Land.
All in all, this is an area ... and a winery ... everyone should know!
Food and Wine Magazine raves
Wait until you taste this.  It's a tremendous example of this red hot region.

"Everyone knows Napa Valley makes great Cabernet Sauvignon. But now exciting cabs are arriving from the “other” California, like Santa Barbara’s Happy Canyon region and Lake County’s obsidian-strewn hills. Here, a guide to the state's lesser-known wine regions." - Food and Wine

Food & Wine magazine featured Lake County, and today's wine, in their No-Napa Guide to California Wine. In a celebration of California's "other" wine regions, Food & Wine described Lake County, noting "the extinct volcanoes that ring the lake offer iron-rich soil that is ideal for Cabernet."

The article featured a listing of some of the most exciting wines in California that are not from Napa but rather, other very exciting areas.  Today's wine, the Shannon Ridge Home Ranch Cabernet was featured on the list.

Everywhere we looked, we found that Cabernet is the rising star of a rising wine region. Best hop on board now before prices rise, too.

At $19.99 per bottle, plus free shipping by the case ... this is a steal
When was the last time you were blown away by a $19.99 California Cabernet?

What exactly is the winery goal here?  Simple.

"Our goal was to make really enjoyable wines that taste like perfectly ripe grapes on the day you harvest them. In the late 1980's we began working with wine grapes from Lake County and recognized the area's potential to grow great mountain fruit. Then, in 1995, we visited a magnificent mountain property about 35 miles north of the Napa county line. At altitudes of 2,100 to 2,400 feet above sea level these steep mountain ridges are cooled by steady winds off Clear Lake and from the higher peaks just north of us. The lean, rocky volcanic soils promised to make the vines produce small berries with concentrated flavors.

Perched along the ridge top at the upper reaches of the High Valley AVA in Lake County, California, Shannon Ridge's "Home Ranch" has breathtaking views of Clear Lake and Mt. Konocti. Home to Clay Shannon, the "Home Ranch" consists of the Caldwell, Morine, Ogulin, Terre Vermielle and La Sierra vineyards. Our single vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon gets it's bold and rich structure from the Ogulin vineyard that is planted to 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Grapes from other Home Ranch vineyards provide additional components and finesse to this complex but well balanced wine."

We couldn't agree more.  Taste this and you will see why we expect it to be one of our hottest selling $19.99 Cabernet offers this spring.  As a bonus, the vintage was flat out exceptional as well.
