Sweet corn, sweet chiles, and banana pudding sing loud and clear on the nose. The sweet aromas are balanced by oak, and peppery harmonies add depth and a pleasant push and pull on both the nose and the palate. On the sip, the pepper is dialed up and dried oak threatens to drown out the lemon, grapefruit, and caramel. The finish is quick and shows the whiskey’s age with spiced oak and crackling peppercorns. Despite the brand’s (wise) name change, this Rebel still has some yell.
