This is a red all wine lovers, especially you Italian-o-philes, have to try.

Plain and simple, this is a 90 Point, $50 wine for $19.99 … or less.
How often can you find deals like this?

We were blown away here. Over the last several months, we have found a few outstanding Barolo and Brunello deals … but continued to look for a great Barbaresco to sell in the $20-$30 price point. This is exactly the kind of wine we were looking for.

On top of that, this earned an outstanding 90 Point score from the Wine Enthusiast who remarked “This elegant, floral expression shows feminine tones of lavender, rose and violet set over a silky mouthfeel.”

The Three “B”s of Italian Red Wines
Today, Barbaresco takes center stage

Barbaresco is an elegant expression of Nebbiolo from the Piedmont. Often overshadowed by Barolo, Barbaresco offers earlier approachability and greater versatility on the table. The Barbaresco region is milder than Barolo, so the wines are less tannic, with more finesse - softer, silkier wines. Barbarescos are impressive beauties that will please many palates in a diverse crowd (i.e. at your dinner party alongside hearty pasta dishes).

You can’t get more classy or more classic than Pier Rio Sordo Barbaresco
Rave reviews from Kerin O’Keefe, Wine Enthusiast’s Italian wine editor and book author

The Italian wine editor for the Wine Enthusiast magazine, Kerin O'Keefe, published her 300-plus-page book Barolo and Barbaresco: The King and Queen of Italian Wine in 2014. In the book, O’Keefe describes the Pier Rio Sordo Barbaresco 2009 as:

"A hallmark Barbaresco of structure, finesse, and breeding. The 2009 is a textbook example of classic Barbaresco, with an intense bouquet of violet, spice, and truffle with rich layers of cherry, raspberry, orange peel, cinnamon, and clove. Still very young and tannin, with a long licorice finish. Drink 2015 to 2024."

O’Keefe offers a complete profile of the estate, writing, "I tasted Pier's Barbaresco Rio Sordo at the 2012 Nebbiolo Prima press tastings, and among the 65 wines tried that day, it jumped out at me for its Nebbiolo intensity and mineral purity." She goes on to explain, "...the firm recently started working with consulting enologist Dante Scaglione of Bruno Giacosa fame. This estate is one of my most exciting discoveries uncovered while researching this book."

Bottom line, this is a tremendous deal!!!
