COLOR-great dark; NOSE-amazing mandarin orange, little charcoal barbeque; TASTE-This has nice balance & elegance, destroyed my palate, completely coats my mouth, tons of licorice & black currant flavors, intense blueberry, extracted jammy, a fantastic bottle, a little one dimensional, but a ride that usually costs $70; WL-92/94; GV-91+
"Wonderful Petite Sirah, that captures the true essence of Napa Valley. Loaded with fresh crushed blackberry and black cherry, chocolate, creme de cassis, and text book notes of cedar, tobacco and tea. Very explosive nose, and a long, firm finish, this beautiful red drinks now, but as all great Petite Sirah does, this will easily last for 15+ years. A staggeringly great value for the cellar."
"In the fall of 2003, Jim Gill fulfilled a life long dream by founding the Wooden Nickel Wine Company. He began by purchasing 2 tons of intensely concentrated old vine Petite Syrah and worked closely with winemaker Charles Hendricks to make 4 barrels of one of the most truly inspiring "boutique" wines around. Jim's passion is evident in the quality of wine he makes while his dedication goes beyond what's in the bottle. Jim has dedicated his wine to his father, Doug, who always told him "don't take any wooden nickels!" Jim carries this philosophy into his winemaking by scouting out only top lots of grapes for his wines. Jim plans to release a Bordeaux style blend in the coming vintages. Only 120 cases of his debut Petite Syrah were produced making it one of the rarest wines in our portfolio." -Winery
