"Part of what is supposed to be a global ultrapremium wine brand, Oriel's Sygnet Shiraz is a terrific effort, made with the help of John Duval (ex Penfolds). Bold aromas and flavors of red raspberries are underscored by hints of dark chocolate, vanilla and toasted coconut, and the wine is full-bodied and dense in the mouth, plushly textured and long on the finish. Drink 2012–2025."

91 Wine Spectator

"Rich and focused. Offers a juicy mouthful of blueberry, plum and earthy spice flavors, which swirl effectively around a lively structure that balances acidity and fine tannins to support the flavors beautifully. Drink now through 2014. 750 cases made. -HS"

Product Description:

WINERY:
"Oriel wines are handmade in miniscule quantities, because making great wine is like making great food- to make a little with the very best ingredients is possible, to make a lot is not. Oriel wines are made especially for us, just a few barrels at a time, and express the distinct characters of the vineyards they come from- open a bottle and take a trip…" -Importer

WINEMAKER:
"After 29 years as a winemaker with Penfolds, one of Australia's most famous wineries, I started my own wine label in 2003. I have had a fortunate career, graduating in agriculture and winemaking in 1973 at Adelaide University and then following in the footsteps of some of the greats of Australian winemaking such as Max Schubert, the creator of Penfolds Grange and Don Ditter, another famous Penfolds winemaker of the 1970s and early '80s."

"Since leaving Penfolds I have consulted to a number of international wine companies in Europe, South America and Australia and I am a vintner partner in the Long Shadows venture in Washington State, US with our first 2003 Sequel Shiraz released in late 2005. In Chile I have helped to produce Pangea, highlighting the premium Syrah of the Apalta Valley. In Australia I consult to a project using old vine McLaren Vale Shiraz to produce Songlines Shiraz (sold in UK and Australia) and Oriel Sygnet (sold in the US)." JohnDuvalWines.com
