Jay Miller - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
"The 2006 Itsas No. 7 is composed of 80% Hondarrabi Zuri and 20% Riesling. It remained on its lees for 1 year prior to release. Medium straw-colored, it delivers an attractive bouquet of spring flowers, lemon peel, and spice box. This is followed by a smooth-textured, ripe, intense wine with some complexity and excellent length. Drink it over the next 1-2 years." -91 Points - Jay Miller - Wine Advocate
WINERY:
"Bodegas Itsas Mendi (the name is Basque for "Sea and Mountain") is a multitude of vineyards totaling 67.5 acres first planted in 1989. It is located in the Basque DO of Bizkaiko Txakolina overlooking the Bay of Biscay, not far from the city of Bilbao.
"The unusual white wine produced is from the native variety Hondarrabi Zuri, farmed by a small group of partners who own the extraordinarily beautiful land. One of Spain's foremost enologists, Ana Martín, is the winemaker producing dynamic new expressions of this traditional Basque wine." -Importer
WINE:
"This wine is made from a selection of Hondarrabi Zuri and Riesling grapes. After alcoholic fermentation, the wine remains on its lees in the tank for at least 10 months before bottling.
The time spent on its lees makes this wine unctuous, dense and provides good structure. The addition of Riesling also gives complexity and aroma, with notes of white flowers and spices." -Importer
