About

Rating:

"The impeccably pure, rich, complex, full-bodied 2006 La Reserve is a deeper, fuller effort revealing an opaque purple color, superb concentration, a multidimensional, textured mouthfeel, and an impressive finish. Black fruits, graphite, and a hint of toasty oak dominate this wine's impressive character. It should drink well for 15+ years."

"Owned by a Chinese national from Hong Kong, this under-the-radar estate is turning out some very good wines, including their top cuvee (a blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc), La Reserve, a superb offering from the sandy/gravelly soils of this terroir." -93 points Robert Parker

WINE:
"The harvest is hand-picked, using plastic crates and there are three sorting tables for the best selection. During fermentation, the must is put in stainless steel vats with thermoregulation, with 8-days long maceration before fermentation to stabilize aromas. It then undergoes alcoholic fermentation at 28-30°C to extract phenolic components. Finally, the wine spends 10-20 days post-fermentation vatting. Daily tasting is done by our team to decide the frequency of each operation (pumping-over, release, punching of the cap). Then the wine is pressed. The wine is aged in new French oak barrels from four different coopers for aroma complexity between 15-18 months." -Winery

WINERY:
"The vines of Chateau Haut-Brisson were planted by the father of the previous owner in 1945. Peter Kwok, a Taiwanese business man, bought Chateau Haut-Brisson in 1997, a 8 hectares vineyard. Then, came the purchase of new plots of land in February 2002 and April 2003. Chateau Haut-Brisson vineyard counts now 12.77 hectares." -Winery

VINEYARDS:
"The 31.58 acres (13 hectares) vineyard lays across three communes: Saint-Emilion, Saint Sulpice de Faleyrens and Vignonet on a gentle slope of sandy top soil over gravel soil with clinker deeper down. The vineyard with an average age of 35 years old, is planted with 80% of Merlot, 15% of Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% of Cabernet Franc." -Winery
