"From a single parcel of old vines and vinified in barrique, Blot's 2005 Bourgueil Mi-Pente (which was about to be bottled when I tasted it) displays a nose of walnut oil, machine oil, truffles, flowers, and ripe, lightly-cooked blackberries, spreads deep, ripe black fruit on the palate, and finishes with intensely black fruit, roasted meatiness and nutty toastiness. This superbly-structured, finely-tannic Bourgueil will make a superb wine and deserves at least 3-5 years in a cellar to prove itself. The 2002 Mi-Pente is excellent today, although Blot hastens to point out that both the quality of raw material and his mode of elevage are superior in 2005. Jacky Blot (better known for the Montlouis from his Domaine de la Taille Aux Loups, also reviewed in this report) has operated the Domaine de la Butte in Bourgueil since 2002, quickly vindicating his choice of location as well as his red wine making talents."
