"As always, the Sagrantino Secco from Bea spends many moons in hibernation as it prepares to enter our world. After a 42 day maceration, this brooding wine passes 24 months in stainless steel before being racked into large oaken casks to undergo an additional 24 months of barrel aging prior to being bottled, unfined and unfiltered of course. The 2003 season is described by Giampiero Bea as 'dry but robust'. It is a vintage of small yields and high intensity. This is a dense but rigorous wine, a forceful wine but one that has an athletic structure and exhibits excellent balance and length. Bea's Sagrantino is charged with abundant notes of wild berries and plums. It is layered with a multitude of spices, herbs, and notes of game. Every wine from this idiosyncratic estate is unashamedly uninhibited and none more so than the Sagrantino." -Winery
