"A conscientious grower with a growing collection of old vines, Boulay's wines - while delicious in youth - can be riveting after 7-12 years. Sourced from old vines in a steep site which a retiring vigneron in 2004 offered Boulay the opportunity to begin farming, the 2005 Sancerre Mont Damnes smells alluringly of honeysuckle and lime, comes to the palate creamy in texture, with a lush mingling of lime, pink grapefruit and honey that is almost late-harvest in character, and finshes with a hint of sweetness backing succulent honeydew melon and sorbet-like grapefruit. Unlike its Clos de Beaujeu sibling, this is possessed of both a cooling, minty streak and a considerable impression of chalky, salty minerality. Boulay's having retained in tank and then blended back a portion of Mont Damnes has helped it retain cut and freshness for the vintage." -
