"Wilhelm Weil commented, when looking back over hundreds of years of winemaking, it always seemed like it was more of a challenge for growers to achieve ripeness. In stark contrast, the above average temperatures during the past two decades have caused the grapes to ripen earlier and earlier. Today Weil, and other vintners, face the challenge of harvesting the crop earlier than ever and at higher temperatures. This was the case again in 2006. Weil feels the key in 2006 was to begin the selection process as soon as the grapes achieved ripeness, and to continue harvest through November. It was interesting that Weil reported no botrytis in Kiedrich until the 20th of October. This means all Weil's Estate wines and the Grafenberg Spatlese were unaffected by 'noble rot.' Weil also left other bunches on the vine to ripen well into November. During this stage of the harvest, 80 pickers had sufficient time to bring in grapes at every Pradikat level, the 18th consecutive year Weil has achieved this feat." -Importer
