93 Points - Gary Vaynerchuk

"This wine blew me away, I can honestly say this is my new favorite New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. The outrageous complexity of grapefruit and kiwi mixed with the acidity of a $50 Riesling makes this the winner it is!!"

"Mahi started in 2001 when Seresin winemaker Brian Bicknell decided to create a label that honored the grape growers of Marlborough. After seeing a number of good growers that were not being recognized for their expertise, Brian became passionate about expressing the work that was being put into these single vineyards. By using simple winemaking techniques, his goal is to produce "true" wines that show the dynamics of the individual vineyards as clearly as possible. Brian has worked as Winemaker at Seresin Estate for nine years and continues to do so. From 1994 - 1996 he was Chief Winemaker at Vina Errazuriz in Chile where he was also looking after four wineries throughout the country. Prior to and after his experience in Chile, he worked at New Zealand wineries Babich, Selaks and Coopers Creek and completed vintages in Bordeaux and Hungary. All the fruit for the Mahi wines is low-cropped, handpicked, hand-sorted then handled gently throughout the winemaking process, using simple and traditional techniques, including whole-cluster pressing and indigenous ferments. By maintaining close contact with the vineyards, Brian hopes to ensure that the fruit attains the intensity and textural elements desired in the wines. The wines of Mahi are not rushed to bottle and with correct storage these wines are expected to continue to develop in interest and complexity." -Importer
