Tor Kenward Rock Syrah Hudson Vineyard 2006

Tor Kenward Rock Syrah Hudson Vineyard 2006

"Full medium ruby. Incredible nose melds black raspberry, leather, game and brown spices, plus a suggestion of apricot. Wonderfully lush, silky and sweet, with superb density and depth to the flavors of raspberry, leather and brown spices. This lightly saline syrah saturates the entire palate. Finishes dry and extremely long, with chewy flavors of rocks, minerals and violet. Vinified with 90% whole clusters. A great California syrah" 95 Points - Stephen Tanzer

"Even better is the prodigious 2006 Tor Rock Syrah Hudson Vineyard. Inky/ruby/purple to the rim, it exhibits a bouquet redolent of spring flowers (acacia, or is it violet?), sweet blackberry and licorice-infused fruit, and hints of espresso as well as white chocolate. It is a full-bodied, powerful Syrah displaying a flawless integration of acidity, alcohol, wood, and tannin. Enjoy this sensational effort now and over the next decade." 94 Points - Robert Parker

Pietranera Brunello Di Montalcino 1999

Pietranera Brunello Di Montalcino 1999

"Wonderful aromas of crushed cherries, nutmeg and cinnamon. Full-bodied, with silky tannins and a caressing, friendly finish. A cuddly red here. Best after 2005. 1,665 cases made." -Wine Spectator

"The 1999 Brunello di Montalcino Pietranera is from a part of the appellation near Castelnuovo dell’Abate. Dark in color, spicy, and expansive on the nose, its palate of wild cherries, tar, and liquorice is powerful and sustained but smooth in texture and velvety on the finish as well. Drink: 2005-2016." -91 Points - Daniel Thomases - Wine Advocate

"The vineyards are in the south-east side of Montalcino. The fruit is harvested the first half of October. Grapes are picked from the bunch and softly squeezed; the maceration takes place in stainless steel vats for a period of 25 days with repeated wine-pressings and delestages. During this phase the alcoholic fermentation is completed and controlled at a temperature of 28-30 °C."

After the fermentation method has been completed, the wine spends 24-30 months in Slavonian oak barrels of 50 hectolitres. It is then aged for another 6 months in stainless steel vats, and at least 12 months in the bottles before being put on the market, at the beginning of the fifth year after the harvest. Intense ruby-red, with a tendency to garnet-red with the ageing. On the nose, this is round, intense well-balanced, with a long finish. On the palate, this is complex, elegant, full-bodied, velvety. Red meat and game, matured cheeses and complex dishes are great pairings for this wine. Open 1-2 hours before being served." -Winery

La Gerla Brunello Di Montalcino Riserva Angeli 2003

La Gerla Brunello Di Montalcino Riserva Angeli 2003

"The single-vineyard Brunello di Montalcino Vigna Gli Angeli is made in a concentrated style that sits on the razor's edge of over ripeness. A big, full- bodied Brunello, it offers tons of jammy fruit and sweet toasted oak along with tobacco, chocolate, leather, spice and underbrush nuances that develop in the glass. In this vintage the wine has a somewhat ponderous, heavy quality that causes it to fall short of the superb 2001. Although the 2003 Vigna Gli Angeli offers outstanding balance, I slightly preferred the regular bottling for its greater vibrancy and freshness. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2015." -Wine Advocate

"Wonderfully fruity on the nose, with strawberry and raspberry. Slightly jammy. Full-bodied, soft and round, with juicy tannins and a long, fruity, creamy vanilla aftertaste. Best after 2010. 465 cases made." -90 points Wine Spectator

"Loose grape pressing; temperature controlled during (30°C), macro oxygenation, fermentation and 15 days maceration; 2 every year rackings, slow continuous flow bottling with inverter system in sterilized conditions. Ages for 4 years, 3 of which are in Slavonian wood casks of 50-100 Hl, then 8 months in bottle."

"The wine is an intense ruby color verging on garnet. On the nose, it is dry, warm, harmonious, velvety, steady in body and heart. On the palate, this is ethereal, melting into scents of sweet violet and iris, recalling the berries growing in the woods. Pair with red meats and game. Keep the bottle upright at room temperature for at least 24 hours. Uncork it two hours before and serve decanted in a carafe." -Winery

Punica Barrua 2004

Punica Barrua 2004

"Impressive aromas of ripe fruit and grilled meat follow through to a full body, with velvety tannins and a long, flavorful finish. Juicy and concentrated, yet balanced. Best after 2010. 6,000 cases made." 92 Points - Wine Spectator

"Barrua is the flagship of a partnership between Sebastiano Rosa of Bolgheri’s Tenuta San Guido and the Sardinian producer Santadi, with Giacomo Tachis as consultant. Blended from 85 percent carignano with cabernet sauvignon (10) and merlot (5), this ’04 is dense and full, with chewy tannins that frame a sweet core of currant and cases. It’s a massive wine that will become more sophisticated with ten to 15 years in the cellar." - 92 Points - Wine and Spirits

Chateau Haut Bergey Rouge 2004

Chateau Haut Bergey Rouge 2004

"A top-notch effort from proprietress Helene Garcin, Haut-Bergey's 2004 exhibits an evolved, cedary, smoky, tobacco, and sweet cherry-scented bouquet offered in a medium-bodied, supple-textured style. It is not as big or forceful as the 2005 nor as structured as the 2006, but rather it is evolved, seductive, and ideal for drinking over the next 7-8 years."

Cape D'estaing Cabernet Sauvignon Kangaroo Island 2003

Cape D'estaing Cabernet Sauvignon Kangaroo Island 2003

"The 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon (from 10-year old vines) exhibits a deep ruby/purple color as well as a classic Bordeaux perfume of cedarwood, black currants, tobacco leaves, and spice. Rich, full-bodied, powerful, and moderately tannic, it should be consumed over the next 10-12 years." -Robert Parker

"The spring was mild and dry, following a very dry winter in 2002. Fruit set was good. Summer was mild and dry too, except for one short period of rain in February which caused a small amount of splitting. The fruit soon dried out and ripened quickly to average 13.6° Bé. The Cabernet was harvested on March 28 & 29."

"The color is a very deep developing red. Dense and very attractive. The nose is integrating very well- strong lifted complex Cabernet nose. The oak is prominent and complementary. Like the nose, this shows rich, ripe Cabernet characters, without a trace of "greenness." It has a strong middle palate and a lingering finish supported by grainy, obvious tannins. This wine was aged all in French oak- 57% new and the balance 2001 barrels. 27% of the barrels were barriques, the remainder hogsheads. It's settling down very well since bottling in March. As with our previous vintages, there is no doubt it will mature gracefully for some years. " -Winery

Terra Di Vento Petrale Aglianico 2006

Terra Di Vento Petrale Aglianico 2006

"Earthy, savory tannins frame the black cherry and rose flavors in this muscular aglianico. Grown in clay and chalk soils in the foothills south of Salerno, it has the structure and definition of wines from mountain regions like Avellino or Monte Vulture, yet there's a sweet warmth and brightness to its core of fresh fruit (red plum, green figs). Put it away for five years to develop elegance, or decant a bottle now for braised meatballs."

Botromagno Primitivo 2005

Botromagno Primitivo 2005

"The 2005 Primitivo from Botromagno reveals a plump, super-ripe personality loaded with smoke, dark cherries, earthiness, and leather. It offers notable complexity at this level. This wine will find its greatest admirers among readers who enjoy a full-bodied, very ripe style of wine. Primitivo is believed to be a relative of Zinfandel. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2009."

Domaine Fondreche Cuvee Persia 2006

Domaine Fondreche Cuvee Persia 2006

"The outstanding 2006 Cotes du Ventoux Persia (90% Syrah and 10% Mourvedre) is nearly as brilliant as the 2007. Sweet blackberry fruit notes intermixed with notions of charcoal, scorched earth, spice, and spring flowers are found in this deep ruby/purple-tinged 2006. It is a delicious, medium to full-bodied offering to enjoy over the next 5-6 years."
