From their base in the Margaret River, the Wise family sources fruit from various vineyards in the surrounding area. Today we're featuring Wise's 2005 Reserve Chardonnay, a 92 point effort priced under $25 a bottle. The fruit for this reserve bottling was sourced from 20-year-old vines in a single vineyard within the young Pemberton region. Located in Southwest Australia and enshrouded by majestic karri forests, Pemberton was anointed official status as a growing region in 2005 and boasts a long ripening season due to its cool climate. With efforts like this 2005 Reserve Chard, Wise and other vintners are quickly making a name for this emerging region!
What separates this under $25 Chardonnay from the pack
92 Points Wine Enthusiast, just $24.98 per bottle on sale: Featuring a voluptuous nose of stone fruit and citrus framed by roasted nuts and toasty oak, this is a rich, amply endowed Chardonnay with a big personality and bold flavors. Ripe peach notes join with citrus, hazelnuts and toast on the long finish.
This bottle hearkens back to the values one used to be able to get from California... rarely will you see a Chardonnay with this depth and richness at this price point. An elegant Chardonnay built to last. Certainly more than enjoyable now, but the winery recommends aging it for up to 10 years. This should age in the manner of a fine white Burgundy.
