Colonial Estate Exodus Chardonnay 2006

Colonial Estate Exodus Chardonnay 2006

"Bright yellow-gold. Powerful, deeply concentrated aromas of buttery apple, pear, yellow plum and butterscotch, with a subtle mineral quality adding energy. Deep and brooding, offering weighty orchard and pit fruit flavors that completely coat the palate. A major mouthful of wine, finishing on a sweet melon note, with impressive length. This was reportedly cropped at less than three-quarters of a ton per acre and is rich and weighty enough to serve with a cheese course." -92 points- Josh Raynolds- International Wine Cellar

"The Colonial Estate is based in the Barossa Valley in South Australia, near to Adelaide. In 2002 we started buying small blocks of vineyards in the northern 'arc' of the Barossa Valley in South Australia, drawn there by 120 year-old dry-grown vines which only a place that has never seen phyloxera can produce. Our whole approach to making wine in Australia has been French influenced, so it is this ethos that guides us. Handpicking, sorting tables, wooden vats, etc separates us from most Australian wineries." -Winery

"Fermentation takes place in a cool-room at 14°C and the malolactic fermentation, again in a barrel, was at 50%. The wine is aged on its lees for around nine months, or until the required fruit/weight/oak balance is achieved."

"Attractive straw-yellow robe with golden highlights. Ripe, fresh and creamy, the nose has already a complex pallet of acacia, white peaches, pineapple, and citrus fruit underlined by a subtle hint of oak, the Burgundy barrels providing an extra dimension of toastiness. Crisp and fruity with excellent weight and concentration, the 2005 possesses rich, honeyed flavors and a long aromatic finish." -Importer

Barroche Signature Chateauneuf Du Pape 2007

Barroche Signature Chateauneuf Du Pape 2007

"Solidly built, with an ample core of boysenberry, blackberry and braised fig fruit flavors laced with dark licorice. The long, grippy finish lets crème de cassis and plum sauce notes sail on. Rather fruit-centric now, but has the stuffing to develop further. Best from 2010 through 2027. 1,650 cases made."

Alfred Gratien Brut

Alfred Gratien Brut

"Fresh-tasting and creamy, with a hint of oak adding complexity. Apple, peach and grapefruit flavors prevail, with nervy acidity driving the finish. Echoes spice and butter on the finish. Drink now through 2012. 7,000 cases made. - BS" -91 points Wine Spectator

"The vineyards are located in Côte des Blancs, Montagne de Reims, and Vallée de la Marne, with predominantly chalky soils. Fermentation is performed in small 228 litre oak casks and is aged for 6 months in small 228 litre oak casks, 3 years in the bottle."

"This great classic clearly shows the style of Alfred Gratien. It’s a refined blend dominated by fruity Pinot Meunier combined with the elegance of Chardonnay. Fine mousse with extremely long-lasting mousse. Citrus fruit, mango, peach and apricot aromas balance wonderfully with the freshness of exotic fruits on the palate." -Importer

"This great classic clearly shows the style of Alfred Gratien. It's a refined blend dominated by fruity Pinot Meunier combined with the elegance of Chardonnay. Light-gold, very beautiful color. Fine, extremely long-lasting mousse. On the nose, this wine has citrus fruits, mangos, peaches and apricots. A wonderful balance of aromatic strength and the freshness of exotic fruits. A refined blend in which the elegance of the Chardonnay melds with the fruitiness of the Pinot Meunier and the enduring flavour of the Pinot Noir. That is the art of champagne production." -Winery

"The 2006 Chateauneuf du Pape exhibits garrigue, pepper, incense, and meaty black cherry notes interwoven with heady levels of glycerin, abundant sex appeal, and a full-bodied, fleshy finish. It should provide superb drinking over the next 10-15 years."

Castello Di Ama Chianti Classico 2005

Castello Di Ama Chianti Classico 2005

"The 2005 Chianti Classico Castello di Ama is a terrific effort. It offers incredible purity and vibrancy in its core of sweet dark cherries and refined, elegant tannins. The wine shows nice density buffered by firm tannins that will need another year or two to soften. The wine clearly benefits from the addition of the fruit that normally goes into the estate's top Chianti Classico bottings, which were not made in 2005. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2017. Castello di Ama only has two new wines this year. The estate decided against producing its top Chianti Classico selections, Vigneto Bellavista and Vigneto La Casuccia in the difficult 2005 vintage. The Merlot L'Apparita was produced but proprietors Marco Pallanti and Lorenza Sebasti Pallanti decided the wine needed further bottle age before it was ready to be evaluated."

Vina Altair Sideral 2003

Vina Altair Sideral 2003

"The 2003 Sideral, a blend of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot. 4% Syrah, and 2% Sangiovese, is purple-colored with aromas of toasty black currants, cedar, and spice box. This is followed by a smoothly textured wine with ripe red and black fruits, spicy flavors, and soft tannins. The wine is forward enough to be enjoyed now but will evolve for several years." -91 points Wine Advocate

"All fruit passes through two phases of hand selection before maceration begins in fermentation tanks of French oak. Gravity takes the place of mechanical pumping to ensure a gentle handling of the fruit throughout fermentation and barrel aging."

"Sideral is a rich wine and powerful with gorgeous garnet red notes. The nose is almost immediately ready, open and warm, with smoky notes and hints of hot spices...Its heart incorporates fruit from the Rapel Valley lending it a complexity that places it with the best of Chile's premium wines. Sideral has the potential for several years of bottle aging." -Winery

Mas Champart St Chinian Causse De Bousquet 2007

Mas Champart St Chinian Causse De Bousquet 2007

"Tasted from tank, the 2007 Saint-Chinian Causse de Bousquet - as always, primarily from the estate's upper plateau vineyards - consists of around 65% Syrah, 15% Grenache; 20% Mourvedre. With an almost savage combination of smoke and animal aromas (encompassing a slight reduction that needed to be shaken off) and sappy cling, the Syrah component for this wine was formidable indeed. A second portion with Mourvedre and Grenache featured bay, marjoram, and raw meat. Their precipitant marriage - a close approximation of the final blend - displays outstanding synergy, with density yet vigor. Complex carnal, meaty, and mineral elements are the focus of attention, and the role of black fruits designed to maximize vivacity and juicy refreshment. Distinguished by the relatively low pH of this vintage (and perhaps of high altitude) this will make a superb accompaniment to a wide range of both red meat and vegetable cuisine, and should be worth following for at least 4-6 years."

Labastida Castillo Rioja Reserva 2001

"Fresh, firm and long. This balanced red offers crisp cherry, cola, vanilla, tobacco and fresh herb flavors, supported by well-integrated tannins that give way to a spicy, floral finish. Drink now through 2011. 15,000 cases made." 90 Points - Wine Spectator

"Medium red with a fading rim. Smoky red berry and underbrush on the nose, with subtle vanilla and floral qualities. Juicy strawberry and dried cherry flavors are gently supported by tangy minerals and framed by soft tannins. Turns sweeter on the finish, which is clean, focused and long. Fully mature and delicious" - 90 Points - Josh Raynolds - Stephen Tanzer's IWC

Peachy Canyon Petite Sirah 2005

Peachy Canyon Petite Sirah 2005

""Huge and mad" is exactly what I wrote down when I tried this wine and you know what it didn't calm down after 5 hours being opened either. This is one serious mofo and it doesn't apologize on its long and rugged finish. The light black fruit mixed with the pretty floral and fleshy mid-palate along with its epic finish make this the Petite Sirah to beat here at Wine Library. If you are a fan of the PS grape then you need to get this into your rotation asap!- Gary Vaynerchuk

"The visual appeal of this dark purple wine fills your glass with beauty and is accompanied by aromas of fresh leather and tobacco, layered by hints of vanilla. The full mouth feel is approachable with elegant tannins that melt into flavors of bacon fat and dark berry fruits. Enjoy the power of this wine now or lay it down for the next 5 to 7 years." -Winery
