"This no-holds-barred project is the brain child of Helene Garcin (Clos L'Eglise, Pomerol) and Dr Alain Raynaud (Quinault L'enclos, St. Emilion). The final blend was selected by Gary Vaynerchuk to play more in to the terroir of the property. Still stout, well structured and plenty of fruit, the aromatics are simply stunning and the finish just goes on and on. This should last for 20-25 years, possibly longer. 50% Merlot, 50% Cabernet Franc."

The chateau's bottling is 60% Cabernet Franc and 40% Merlot. It was also rated 93 Points by Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate.

"Talk about a wine that makes you take notice. This is simply great modern Rioja. The nose is creamy but honest, with black fruit, mocha and finely tanned leather. The palate gives the whole range of berry and tree fruits, with expansive tannins and just enough core acidity to make it stunning. Ultra stylish and delicious; another huge success for the Eguren family that owns San Vicente and other Rioja properties."

"This outstanding, small winery has turned out just over 1,100 cases of the 2006 Summit Proprietary Red, a beautiful blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, and the rest Malbec and Cabernet Franc. This St.-Emilion-like red exhibits soft, cedary, spicy, red cherry and black currant aromas followed by a medium to full-bodied, seductive, generously flavored, complex wine with no hard edges. A perfectly balanced beauty, it should continue to drink well for 10-12 years."

"The ever-talented Dr. Alain Raynaud is responsible for this incredible wine. Wonderful structure of acid and tannin frame this muscular red. Plenty of red and purple fruits robe that structure, and great spice and earth tones appear on the finish. This should last for 15+ years. 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Malbec. This is a wine I helped blend and if I was to rate it would rate in this range, of course I am playing fan favorite here ;)

The 2006 Quinault l’Enclos exhibits the elegant style that Raynaud has achieved in every vintage over the last decade. Sweet black raspberry and currant fruit along with hints of spring flowers and smoky oak are followed by a round, gentle, restrained wine revealing outstanding purity, medium body, and a fine finish. While it is not as prodigious as the 2005, it is a strong effort for the vintage. My visit to Chateau Quinault and seeing proprietor Alain Raynaud was tinged with sadness as the world economic climate has forced him to sell Quinault l’Enclos to the owners of Cheval Blanc. Hopefully they will continue to produce wine at this vineyard, which is essentially a true clos (a walled vineyard), but the land is even more valuable as real estate since it is in the city of Libourne, and is surrounded by housing projects. Time will tell, but Raynaud deserves credit for creating a legacy from a terroir that was much maligned when he purchased it, only to prove everyone wrong.- Robert Parker "
