Negly Clos Des Truffiers 2004

Negly Clos Des Truffiers 2004

"The relatively late-harvested 2004 Coteaux du Languedoc Clos des Truffiers combines alkaline and black tea character and fennel with ripe black fruits in the nose. Formidably if slightly less massively concentrated than many other Clos des Truffiers bottlings, this exhibits a remarkable degree of fresh fruit vivacity; a firm rather than plush or luxuriant texture; and finishes with the sort of long, saline, savor that is virtually a common denominator among these wines. I fancy savoring this over the next 2-3 years."

Flora Springs Rennie Cabernet 2005

Flora Springs Rennie Cabernet 2005

"An extraordinary wine, among the greatest Cabs in Flora Springs' long history. One hundred percent varietal, and made from a single clone, it shows fabulous density and serious weight, with dramatically rich blackberry, currant and cedar flavors anchored by a firm minerality. For all its power, the wine is balanced and elegant. An ager, it will drink well for at least a decade." -96 points Wine Enthusiast

Also listed as #8 in the Top 100 Cellar Selections by Wine Enthusiast of 2009! Click here to view (you may need to be a subscriber first "Komes Ranch Vineyard: This vineyard is located at the northern border of the Rutherford Appellation and the southern boundary of the St. Helena Appellation and is the home of Flora Springs Winery and many of our red wines. The vineyard naturally adds complexity to the wines through its diverse soil types, varying exposures and elevations as well as varying clones and vine age. This is truly one of the jewels of the Napa Valley."

"The slow ripening nature of this vineyard allows the fruit more hang time, adding to the intensity of fruit flavor and overall complexity of the wine. Following fermentation, the wine was racked immediately to 50% new and 50% second-use barrels. After 8 to 9 months, it was moved into 100% new French oak for the balance of aging, then bottled in September 2007"

"Both elegant and intense in style, this bright ruby-colored wine exhibits classic Cabernet Sauvignon varietal characteristics of cherry and spice aromas, followed by cassis, vanilla, black cherry and toasty oak. The lingering finish is complimented by soft tannins." -Winery

Legras St Vincent 1990

Legras St Vincent 1990

"Pale color. Fine mousse. Aromas of lime, apple, orange, clove, licorice, minerals and earth. Brisk, light, youthful and quite dry on the palate, with spice and orange peel flavors brightened by vibrant acidity. Finishes clean and long. Classy chardonnay, still quite young."

Chateau Montviel La Reserve 2006

Chateau Montviel La Reserve 2006

"This cuvee is a stouter version of the classic wine of Montviel. Bolder tannins, more lively acids and good fruit lead way to the classic green olive and herb notes of Merlot grown in Pomerol. This should last for 15+ years, and is an absolute steal at this price! 90% Merlot 10% Cabernet Franc."

The 93-95 point score I have put in here is where I would expect this wine to score on most palates, of course I can't really score a wine I helped blend and put together but I can say that I am beyond excited with this blend and feel like this may become the sleeper of the La Reserve program! The loaded fruit and complexity of this wine is more reminiscent of the wines of Le Gay or Trotanoy then prior Montviel's. The fans of the monster Pomerol wines will be happy but this does have a hint of refinement that some of the bombs lack.

The chateau's cuvee is composed of 82% Merlot and 18% Cabernet Franc.

Sally's Paddock Red Blend 2006

Sally's Paddock Red Blend 2006

"The 2006 Sally’s Paddock was aged for 24 months in 60% new French and American oak. Deep garnet in color, it reveals an alluring bouquet of violets, spice box, especially clove and cinnamon, black cherry, and blackberry. This is followed by a medium-bodied, elegant wine with a velvety texture, great concentration and depth, well-concealed tannins, and a very long finish. It will reward 6-8 years of cellaring and offer prime drinking from 2015 to 2036." 93 Points - Jay Miller - Wine Advocate

"Inky purple. Exotically perfumed bouquet of blackberry, blackcurrant, candied licorice, graphite and musky underbrush. Picks up espresso and black cardamom scents with air, which add to the wild, complex personality. Deep and creamy, with sweet dark berry preserve flavors, solid tannic grip and a late jolt of anise. Finishes with excellent cling and noteworthy persistence, the dark berries echoing." 91 Points - Josh Raynolds

"Sally’s Paddock is far better known among collectors in Australia than it is in the USA. The wine is named after the winemaker Neill Robb’s wife Sally, and is sourced from a 4-acre dry-grown, 35-year-old block planted to Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot." - Jay Miller

"The Sally’s Paddock is the jewel in the Redbank crown. Sally's Paddock Named after winemaker Neill Robb’s wife, Sally’s Paddock is a distinctive wine made from a single non-irrigated vineyard established in 1973 at Redbank. The Sally’s Paddock vineyard grows modest crops of exceptional quality Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Cabernet Franc and Merlot which are hand picked at Optimum balance, small batch made with wild yeast, hand punched, basket pressed all in the Old Australian way. Extended use of new American and Nevers oak ensures that the characteristics of the Unique blend from this Legendary vineyard are conserved in the wine until Ultimate maturity. It is universally regarded as one of Australia’s classic red wines. The unique combination of soil type, cool-mild climatic characteristics and non-irrigated traditional culture vineyards produce low yield grapes of high intensity, colour and flavour in the classic Pyrenees style." - Winery

Chat Lagrezette Pigeonnier Cahors 2000

Chat Lagrezette Pigeonnier Cahors 2000

"A powerful, intense red, with a meaty aroma and loads of blackberry, cassis, dark plum and chewy mocha flavors. Still quite tannic despite its age, with a mineral- and dark chocolate-filled finish. Drink now through 2015. 546 cases made." -Wine Spectator

"The inky/ruby/purple-colored 2000 exhibits plenty of structure along with hints of creme de cassis, licorice, and pain grille. Medium-bodied and moderately tannic, it will be at its finest between 2008 and 2020.

This limited luxury cuvee of approximately 8,000 bottles per vintage (from Chateau de Lagrezette) is made by Alain-Dominique Perrin, the owner of the luxury house of Cartier. This old-vine 100% Malbec is meant to be the quintessence of Cahors, and no other Cahors I have ever tasted evidences such concentration and intensity." -90 points- Robert Parker

"Built by the Massault family in the 15th century on the foundations of a 12th century fortified house, Chateau Lagrezette is the product of a successful blending of traditional medieval sturdy architecture and of elegant Renaissance ornamentation. Owned successively by the Malegar, Lebrun, Belcastel, Malartic, d'Alembert, de Barde and Chevalier families, the Chateau, which is listed as historical monument since 1982, was purchased in 1980 by Marie-Therese and Alain Dominique Perrin. Now restored to perfection, it has recovered every inch of its former splendor."

"The vineyard of Cahors, one of the oldest in France, was much-praised as early as the 7th century by the Bishop of Verdun. In the 13th century, the English, who were the then masters of Guyenne, considered it very highly, and so did the Tsar Peter the Great. Destroyed by phylloxera at the end of the 19th century and later killed by the devastating frost of 1956, it is only in the early sixties that it came back to life, when the Malbec, a noble grape variety specific to the appellation, was cultivated again. Long-lived, powerful and generous, richly-endowed in tannins and aromas of liquorice, aniseed and red fruits, the wine of Cahors has re-conquered connoisseurs and won back its rightful place among the great appellations of France."

"This wine originates from a small 2.7 ha vineyard with an East/West exposure and situated on the third terrace of the Lot. Yields are kept between 15 and 20 hl/ha, and the annual production is approximately 7,000 bottles. This 100 % Auxerrois (Malbec) cuvee is vinified in a wooden foudre and aged for 28 months in new oak barrels. A true vin de garde, Le Pigeonnier will age gracefully over some twenty-five years."

"The average age of the vines are 20 years old. This wine had a four-day cold maceration at 12 °C, followed by fermentation and prolonged maceration at 30 °C. During the fermentation period, there were daily pumping-overs and punching-downs. Malolactic fermentation occurs in new oak barrels. Michel Rolland is the consulting oenologist at Chateau Lagrezette." -Winery

Chateau Leoville Poyferre 2005

Chateau Leoville Poyferre 2005

Although I still prefer the 2003, the 2005 Leoville Poyferre is a gorgeously opulent, approachable wine that is far less massive and austere than its two siblings. The most seductive, approachable, and charming of the three Leovilles, it exhibits a dense purple color as well as a sweet bouquet of mocha, black chocolate, creme de cassis, licorice, and toasty oak. Full-bodied with gorgeous upfront fruit in addition to impressive levels of melted, well-integrated tannin, it should be at its finest between 2015-2035.

Le Macchiole Paleo Rosso 2000

Le Macchiole Paleo Rosso 2000

"The 2000 Paleo, a classic Bordeaux blend in this vintage, shows a high toast, vanilla-laced nose of cassis, blackberries, and Cabernet Franc herbs, and a supple, well concentrated palate of ripe fruit, minerals, and tar. The depth and intensity of 1999 are not here, but no one else achieved them in 2000 either. Drink: 2005-2018."

Chateau Magrez Fombrauge 2001

Chateau Magrez Fombrauge 2001

"This is a sensational effort. A limited production cuvee fashioned from five plus acres of the Fombrauge vineyard, the debut vintage was 2000. The fruit is picked extremely ripe and given an unusually long maceration, resulting in a modern-styled blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc made from low yields of 24 hectoliters per hectare. A black/blue color is accompanied by an extraordinary nose of melted chocolate, espresso roast, creme de cassis, smoke, and charcoal. It boasts a fabulous texture, hints of lead pencil shavings, a full-bodied, dense, heady mid-palate, low acidity, and a voluptuously textured, rich finish that lasts for nearly a minute. Considerable tannin lurks beneath the surface, but it is well-concealed by the wine's wealth of fruit, extract, and glycerin. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2016. Bravo!"

Castello Dei Rampolla Sammarco 2003

Castello Dei Rampolla Sammarco 2003

"The 2003 Sammarco (90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot and 5% Sangiovese) presents a gorgeously ripe, jammy nose along with licorice, cassis, smoke, earthiness, grilled herbs and sweet dark fruit nuances that flow from the glass. Full-bodied and long on the palate, it is a massively structured effort that should drink well to age 20, perhaps longer. Only the hard, drying tannins on the finish keep the score from going higher. The 2003 is the first vintage of Sammarco that adds a small percentage of Merlot to the blend. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2023." -Wine Advocate

"Decadent and powerful, with lots of berry, licorice and cedar aromas and flavors. Full and rich, with lots of sweet fruit and a silky, caressing palate. Gorgeous. Best after 2007. 1,535 cases made." -92 Points- Wine Spectator

"The estate S. Lucia in Faulle, where the Castello dei Rampolla wine is produced, is in the southern valley of Panzano, so called 'Conca d’Oro.' It has been owned by the Di Napoli Rampolla family since 1739. From 1964 Alceo Di Napoli devoted himself to grape growing, using modern methods. The first vinifications were in 1970's; the first bottling of wine was done from the grape harvest of 1975. Now the business is run by Maurizia and her brother Luca Di Napoli Rampolla with the collaboration of full time and seasonal workers. The vineyards occupy 42 hectolitres in total, not all in production yet. The lands are predominantly calcareous with little clay and many stones. The vineyards have a south, southeast and southwest exposure. Their altitudes run from 1200 ft to 900 ft."

"Vinification: fermentation in stainless steel vats; at 26-28 Celsius (15 days for Cabernet Sauvignon, 15 days for Sangiovese) with pumping over of the cap; full malolactic. Ageing: 18-24 months (Sangiovese in Slavonian oak, Cabernet Sauvignon in barriques, of which 30% new); assemblage in stainless steel; light egg white fining before bottling." -Importer

Charbonniere Brusquieres Chateauneuf Du Pape 2007

Charbonniere Brusquieres Chateauneuf Du Pape 2007

"This wine is composed of a selection the Maret family makes from their holdings in one of the great sites in all of Chateauneuf du Pape, the lieux-dit known as La Crau. The 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Hautes Brusquieres Cuvee Speciale is a blend of 60% Grenache and 40% Syrah. The Grenache is aged in large oak foudres and most of the Syrah in smaller barrels. This fabulous, inky/ruby/purple-tinged wine offers up sweet, jammy aromas of black raspberries, licorice, truffles, underbrush, and Provencal herbs. It is the deepest colored of these four wines, and is also profoundly rich and layered, with sweet tannins as well as refreshing vibrancy and acidity. This stunner should hit its peak in 3-4 years, and last for two decades."

"Combines enticing plum, raspberry and blackberry fruit with black tea, tobacco, mineral and sandalwood notes. The long, fine-grained finish lets everything hang together nicely. Should blossom in the cellar. Drink now through 2027. 1,250 cases made." -93 points Wine Spectator

Chateau Coutet 2002

Chateau Coutet 2002

Pale yellow. Aromas of mirabelle, licorice, menthol and flowers. Brisk, juicy and penetrating, if a bit youthfully unforthcoming in the middle. Reasonably firm acids give this fresh wine a solid backbone and good finishing grip..
